TEXT

enjoy it - video and lettering: an intervention by Lieve D'hondt (2004)

enjoy v. to take pleasure in; to experience with pleasure; to
immediately experience (as reaction or emotion) origin from the
latin gaudere, to rejoice

In the context of art, enjoy it is an invitation to enjoy the work itself, to enjoy the exhibition, to enjoy the communication between the artist and the public. In the context of the Gyumri Biennale,   it is   an invitation too to enjoy the Armenian alphabet on the occasion of its 1600th anniversary. And in the context of life in general, it is an invitation to focus on the positive, to appreciate the moment, the 'now'.

The colour blue on the video and in the lettering on the wall evokes life, peace, sky, openness, harmony and hope. It too is a reflection of all that is positive.

The moving image created on the screen as the word fades in and fades out makes visual art out of text. The text becomes poetry, the poetry becomes art, visual art and literature fuse.
